A doodle for the Holidays

HAPPY HOLIDAYS :D

Friday, September 26, 2008

These are some studies inspired by Armand Serrano. I really enjoy the color choices he makes and how he's able to keep things really saturated at the same time not losing a lot of value. I like the doodles I came up with here, but with each one, I realize how much more I need to learn about composing with light and color. The shapes and compositions with enviorments i'm confident about, but with the edition of light and color, that is only half the battle now.

Some recent art I've been doing. Just getting more color and working on a process that works for me.

Security Robot

So finally colored this guys up, i like the way he turned out and the subtle texture work for his shell. I pushed him more and added some stretch to get a better feeling of the weight or the baby. His main purpose is to guard and protect the house, NOT baby sit, but to show that he is more than just a mindless, emotionless drone I thought the idea of showing how his owners take advantage of his kindness would be good for a chuckle :D

These are part of a series of plane concepts I had done, just for the sake of seeing whether or not i could do them, and like any fun project they began to develop into a bit more. The first idea was just for fun I wanted to see what a plane in that configuration would look like. I wanted to do a futuristic stunt plane. The idea came from watching a documentary on space planes that were able to control a free fall by adjustable wings (amazing in a totally nerdy sense). So that was the birth of the idea, that arial acrobatic pilots in the near future could perform the impossibly looking stunts with complete control.
Artistically I thought the first one turned out pretty well, I really made sure to hammer out the perspectives and to get a bit of texture.
For the second one, I wanted to push the lighting a bit more. There is more to be pushed, so I will come back to it again when my eyes have rested, but I do like the way it's turning out, and I'm real happy with the abstract viper decal logo. It's always fun to do some Graphic Design to make a piece more believable.

Recently finished this up. There are a few more things i want to toy around with, like a colored backlight just to see what happens, but so far i like where this has gone. Started with a sketch, then into illustrator, and finally photoshop. Good fun.

Here's some random stuff I've been doin since the last post. Enjoy

This was a random illustration I did for a buddy, this is not really being animated to my knowledge, it just reminded me of a cell when i finished.

Duck In A Box, another random thing I'm working on. Possibly more ducky ideas to come.

Yeah, i don't know what i was thinking either. Chicks, skirts, leather/vinyl, and wierd machines... hot?

Ahhh yes, my good ol co-worker from EA. Ben, the master of cuteness. Poor guy had to draw the cutest princess outfits for weeks. I've never seen one man tackle some much cuteness (not that cuteness is a unmanly thing... just sayin...geeze...)

This was a blast from the past from me. Did this years ago... and I was like, traditional? Brush? paper? God?

It had been a long time since I've just sat down to sketch. Met up with a buddy and we just drew. It was great. The little boy was halarious. He kept pumping the tea squisher thinger majigger up and down, laughing histarically while doing it. This was great for the first minute, but the novelty wore off especially when he started scream laughing histarically, which was just a bit obnoxious, but hey, if I were his age, i'd be having a freakin blast too ;D

Working on reworking some old projects that I had fun with, but I think I can have an even greater time with now. This has to do with a sea beast that is used by a civilization to migrate to warmer climates.
